The Washington Post Quoted Me About Saving on a Costco Rental Car
My Costco rental-car video led to a Washington Post interview about a price Costco Travel quoted for my Los Angeles trip, with follow-up coverage from The Independent and Yahoo.

The Washington Post quoted me in its story about people booking rental cars through Costco Travel.
For a 10-day trip to Los Angeles, I compared the same compact SUV through Costco and Alamo. Costco quoted me $573 with taxes and fees included, which came out to about $88 less than booking directly with Alamo. The Costco rate included a second driver and qualified for the 2% annual reward attached to my Executive membership.
I told the Post, “With just one rental, I’ve almost paid for my Executive membership without even grocery shopping.”
My rental-car video led to the interview
The interview happened because I had already made content about booking my rental car through Costco. In The Costco Rental Car Hack, I explained a membership benefit that exists outside the warehouse and attached it to a price comparison from a trip I was taking.
That video belongs to a larger body of Costco content I’ve made about food, travel, membership benefits, and consumer habits. The page includes practical shopping videos and Breaking Even, my recurring series about whether my Costco membership saves me money.
Making several stories around one subject gives a reporter more than a stray opinion. They can see what I have covered, how I explain it, and where my firsthand experience fits the story they are reporting. In this case, the rental-car video supplied a real booking, a direct price comparison, and a membership benefit that readers could understand quickly.
The Independent and Yahoo carried the reporting
The Washington Post published the original story on September 22, 2026. The Independent followed with its own article based on the Post’s reporting, and Yahoo carried The Independent version.
Those pages repeat the same rental example and quotation. Both derive from the Washington Post interview.
My Costco work includes organic videos and brand partnerships
My Costco work includes organic consumer stories and brand partnerships. Breaking Even gives me room to test the value of the membership over time. A rental-car tip can stand alone when one useful detail deserves its own video. My Crest Costco case study documents a separate paid partnership built around a limited-time warehouse offer.
Each piece answers a different question, and together they give someone enough context to understand why they might come to me for a Costco story. My public rental-car video gave the Washington Post a specific example its reporters could verify.
